Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a referral?

No you don’t need a referral, however, if you’d like to use a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) to access Medicare rebates you’ll need to see your GP first and we’ll require a copy.

If you’re seeking to self-fund sessions then no MHCP is required - please reach out directly.

What to expect in the first session?

The first session is about getting to know you, understanding what’s bringing you to therapy and talking about your goals and intentions about what you’d like to get out of our sessions. There’s no pressure - it’s a safe space to share at your own pace.

How long are sessions?

A standard session is typically 50-60 minutes.

Cancellation Policy?

If you need to reschedule, cancel or postpone your appointment we require 24hr notice otherwise you will be charged 50% of session fee (unless there are extenuating circumstances).

What about my privacy & confidentiality?

Your privacy is important to us. The professional body of AASW requires us to uphold confidentiality, meaning we don’t share your information with anyone, except in exceptional circumstances (ie. serious risk of harm to yourself/someone else or subpoenas). Notes and documentation is maintained confidentially on a secure system.

What if it isn’t the right fit?

Call and have a chat!! Finding the right therapist can be a little like finding the right pair of jeans, it may take a few tries to find the right fit. If you feel that it’s not the right fit, please let us know. Or alternatively, if we are not confident it’s the right fit for you and your needs we may provide alternative recommendations of other clinicians or services who may be better suited.

Sometimes things in therapy might not feel quite right, you may have concerns or needs you feel might not be being met — and that’s completely normal. I encourage you to let us know if something isn’t landing well. Talking it through helps us repair, strengthen our connection, and make sure your sessions feel most useful for you. We call this rupture and repair and it can be a normal part of the therapeutic relationship and process.
